Lately I've been wondering if I should do videos or not and I just decided I totally should.  For 2 reasons:

• Some things, especially when they are physical in nature, are just very hard to explain in a blog post

• They make me feel really uncomfortable.  I mean, how are you supposed to capture the vibe of talking to someone when they are not there? :-p  So this will be a nice growth experiment.

I'm already looking forward to going through the whole process of sucking and then sucking just a little less until I don't suck any more with this.  Though I do have to ask myself why I always have to learn new skillsets that force me to do the suckage in a public way (blogging, music, making videos), haha.

I already learned a shit-ton from biting the bullet today (I'll list my lessons at the end of this post)!  It's called "You Should Go Cry In a Corner":

One thing I noticed right away is that I find it a lot harder to explain something in a structured and coherent manner when I'm on camera.  When I type out a blog post, usually a structure (intro, subheadings, conclusion) emerges naturally.  When I'm just talking I tend to blabber.  I know what I want to say but I'm not really sure how to make my point or even if I've already made it or not.  I'm not sure if this has to do with me or the medium.  I tend to shy away from watching other people's YouTube videos (for the same reasons) and read their books instead.

I could rehearse my content up front, but that might make it look mechanical.  So next time I'll experiment with a few keywords for structure.  I also had no clue how to start or end a video, so a pre-planned structure my help with that as well.

Other than that I notice I tend to smack my tongue when thinking what to say (kinda funny once you notice it) and that I may need to make my speaking style more dynamic and engaging.

Feel free to send me your feedback as well!  If I could learn this skill in a couple of weeks, that would help me share a lot more helpful things with you that I couldn't otherwise put in blog posts.  But don't worry, I have some "normal ones" cued up as well.

Have a fantastic week over there 😉
